Written for my nephew and the UA class of 2026!
Dear Lord,
I am in this world…..
Where everything feels upside down.
Nothing feels safe,
and there is so much hate,
and the truth feels like it can’t be found.
Dear Lord,
I am in this place……
Where I feel like I have no control.
There is so much change,
and relationships feel strange,
The broken pieces of me want to feel whole.
chorus
But I know you’re always with me….
Holding me firm in the palm of your hand.
So on my knees now I come before you,
With all my trust ….
for what YOU…..
have planned.
Lord God,
I am surrounded by……
So much chaos that makes no sense.
There is war and death,
and with every breath,
I long so much for my innocence.
Lord God,
I am drowning in……
My disappointments and my fears.
And with my selfish pride,
on myself I’ve relied,
Only causing so many tears.
chorus
But I know you’re always with me….
Holding me firm in the palm of your hand.
So on my knees now I come before you,
With all my trust….
for what YOU ….
have planned.
bridge
My days are numbered by you,
For when this life here is through,
May my last breath then become my first….
In my new permanent home,
with you reigning on your throne,
and for you I will no longer have to thirst.
chorus
Lord God, I know you’re always with me….
Holding me firm in the palm of your hand.
So on my knees now I come before you,
With all my trust….
for what YOU ….
have planned.
chorus
Father, I know you’re always with me….
Holding me firm in the palm of your hand.
So on my knees now I come before you,
With all my trust….
for what YOU ….
have planned.
verse 1
What a magical time
it was to be alive,
What a journey it all has been.
And what a blessing it is
That this aging brain,
Still remembers how it was back then.
chorus
Back then……
We were super heroes in homemade capes
We were gymnasts on the monkey bars,
We were “The Jetsons” sliding down those slides,
On a space mission to land on Mars.
verse 2
If it was Saturday morning,
we watched the best cartoons.
With sugary cereal resting in our spoons.
Then the doorbell would ring,
when our best friends came calling,
To see if we could come out,
for some whiffle balling.
chorus
Back then……..
We were Disco Queens in our roller skates,
We were Charlie’s Angels hiding behind trees.
We were the fastest runner playing kick-the-can,
Setting all of our captive friends free!
verse 3
We loved the record stores
when we cruised the mall,
We loved Atari games
like Frogger and Pitfall
After dinner and baths,
we’d watch a few good shows.
If we heard the theme from MASH,
Then off to bed we’d go.
chorus
Back then…….
We were designers making hair barrettes,
We were news anchors live on air,
We were all dressed up on News Years Day,
For the annual neighborhood parade.
bridge
Not a care in the world
And no evidence online
A generation of grown up kids….
wishing for those times.
When we lived more outdoors,
and rarely had any set plans.
and the one thing we feared most
were creepy unmarked white vans ……
(Ha! Remember those times?).
final chorus
Back then……
We were unaware that we had it all…
We were not wishing for a different world.
We did not appreciate that so much would change
Once the Internet access unfurled.
outro
Man those were good times
Thank goodness we were there
We loved our childhood days
Here’s to the Generation X-ers
Godspeed and take care!

Lyrics by c c Snowden
She fell madly in love ….
when she was just two……..
with the family dog,
together, up they grew,
Her first big love affair ….
where she fell hard and fast,
She was Juliette
and her Romeo was cast!
chorus
A girl and her dog —
like peanut butter and jelly,
A classic combination
to satisfy your belly.
Diamonds and pearls….
are precious things you might get her,
But the love of a dog,
is something she would like better.
Her Romeo passed
when she was still young,
Losing that good, ole boy…..
was like getting burned then stung.
Living life all alone
felt like an empty blur,
Then along came a dog
whose love would rescue her.
chorus
A girl and her dog are like
peanut butter and jelly,
That classic combination
filling up your belly.
Diamonds and pearls are precious
things you might get her,
But the love of a dog,
is something she’d like better.
The years would pass by….
Like the chapters of a book.
It felt like time slipped away,
Stolen by a crook.
She became a wife and a mom,
A busy life on the go,
But in her grey minivan,
You’d see her dogs were in tow.
Bridge
She praises God for the dogs
and names them one by one,
For bringing light to her life,
Like the shining sun.
Diamond rings and some pearls,
are fancy things you might get her,
But the love of a dog
is something she would like better!
final chorus
All humans having a dog…
should be made mandatory,
For the love that dogs bring
To enhance our story.
hmmmmm mmmm
mmmm hmm.
Thank God for all dogs.
hmmmmmm….. mmmmm
mmmmm
verse 1
We are shackled up in headlines,
We are prisoners of the posts.
With the addiction to the outrage,
Our nation’s “good ole days” are ghosts.
verse 2
We no longer recognize our neighbors,
Now all we see are party lines.
How did we get here in this era,
Where politics so much defines?
chorus
I’m escaping in the music,
And putting on my favorite bands.
Ignoring those who feel the need to,
Declare we all live on stolen lands.
Cause I’m escaping in the music,
And turning up my favorite song,
Where the lyrics don’t accuse me,
Of being ignorant or voting wrong.
verse 3
Remember when we all had pride,
And we bled red white and blue?
Remember when the American flag,
Was not viewed as “triggering” too?
verse 4
Do you remember the conversations,
When we could all agree to disagree?
Now we’re losing long-time friendships,
Just because we vote differently.
chorus
So, I’m escaping in the music,
And putting on my favorite bands.
Ignoring those who feel the need to,
Declare we all live on stolen lands.
Cause I’m escaping in the music,
And turning up my favorite song,
Where the lyrics don’t accuse me,
Of being ignorant or being wrong.
bridge
It is sad we’re so divided
and there is no end in sight,
as long as we let politics
Decide who’s wrong and right.
I need some rock n roll to save me,
And be unburdened by what has been.
We are humans needing each other,
Not just Democrats or Republicans.
Outro
Calgon take me away…..
I need to escape…..
please show me the way….
I need some Lynyrd Skynyrd….
And some Kid Rock today!!!!

verse 1
Some people read….
to relax.
Or put on Golf…..
when they nap.
Some listen to music….
that’s playing soft and low.
verse 2
I watch reruns….
of a man,
with a paint brush….
in his hand,
When I need peace….
I turn on the Bob Ross Show.
chorus
He’ll paint a happy little cloud,
And any color is allowed,
His soothing voice
can almost hypnotize.
He’ll mix a clump of green paint
(You’ll think, “a tree”, but, no, it ain’t)
Then on his canvas….
he paints a nice surprise!
verse 4
I love his hair….
full of curl,
I love his strokes…..
as they swirl,
And he mixes in….
some wisdom and advice.
verse 5
He’ll say there are ….
no mistakes,
And that patience….
is what it takes,
When making art…
You don’t have to be precise.
chorus
Then he’ll paint a happy little tree,
And a calm comes over me
His soothing voice
can almost hypnotize.
He’ll mix a clump of blue paint,
(You’ll think, “a river”, but, no, it ain’t)
Then on his canvas….
he paints a nice surprise!
bridge
The Joy of Painting might be,
The very best method to calm me,
That Bob Ross was like some therapy,
in a half hour show.
He gave us 31 great seasons
And a whole more good reasons
to be creative and to give painting a-go.
outro
Give me some happy little trees…..
Paint me a gentle flowing breeze…..
Highlight the mountains in the distance…..
Thank God for Bob Ross’s existence!
Happy happy happy ….
joy joy
mmmmmm
mmmm
mmmmm
no mistakes, only happy accidents!

verse1
I love tie dye…
pecan pie…..
Older music is
what I tend to choose.
I love antiques
Bama winning streaks
Being barefoot
instead of wearing shoes.
pre chorus
I’m just a tree hugging,
peace loving,
Modern-day “hippie chick”
I’m from Gen X, in mid life,
and mostly don’t give a flip!
chorus
I really don’t like all the labels
but since they are the trend at hand…
then I am a “she /her”
Faith and family first
Common sense American.
verse 2
I love poetry….
gardening….
and thrifting in the afternoons
I love game shows,
kissin my dogs nose,
and a hot bath while streaming tunes.
pre chorus
I’m a Floridian
Jacksonvillian
Born and raised here in Duuuuval
Where we say, “yes ma’am”
And “no sir”
And we frequently say, “hey y’all!”
chorus
I really don’t like all the labels
but since labels are the trend at hand…
then I am a “she /her”
Faith and family first
Common sense American.
bridge
I’m not for everyone
Sometimes a little odd
But a Southerner
by the Grace of God
final chorus
I really don’t like all the labels
but since labels are the trend at hand…
then I am a “she /her”
Faith and family first
Common sense American.
