I am much too young,
to call it a night,
But I am too old,
to stay out much later.
I’m stuck in between,
the so-called “good ole days,”
And the ones where I’ll
need a pace maker.
I’m not young, there’s no denial,
But I’m also not going senile.
I like going out,
or just staying in…..
So far that’s how my midlife
Has been.
Inside my mind’s eye,
I’m still fun and cool.
I keep up with the times,
and what’s trending.
But when I try to read,
I squint and I blink,
without my readers
on which I’m depending.
I’m not young, there’s no denial,
But I’m also not going senile.
I like less chaos,
And a lot more zen.
So far that’s how my midlife
Has been.
My hair’s turning grey,
My face has some lines.
All my jeans have some stretch.
I’m stuck in between,
Feeling like finished art,
and feeling like the very first sketch.
I’m not young, there’s no denial,
But I’m not yet going senile.
I drink more water
Than bourbon or gin….
So far that’s how my midlife
Has been.
I’m not young, there’s no denial,
But I’m far from being senile.
I’m in bed at nine thirty or ten…..
So far that’s how my midlife
Has been.
So far that’s how my midlife has been.
